It was yet another disappointing night for Manchester City on Tuesday, as they could only draw 1-1 at home with West Bromwich Albion.

City were flat in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Manchester United, and fans were expecting much better against the struggling Baggies.

The game was a struggle throughout though, and City were unconvincing even when Ilkay Gundogan fired them in front from Raheem Sterling’s pass.

Semi Ajayi’s shot found the net via Ruben Dias to give West Brom an equaliser, and despite piling pressure on the West Brom goal, City just couldn’t beat the inspired Sam Johnstone.

Gundogan had a close-range header and sent a free kick just wide of the post, with the 30-year-old arguably City’s top performer on the night.

The midfielder has been in and out of Pep Guardiola’s side this season, but came up with a fine performance last night, earning praise from fans on Twitter.

Some felt that Gundogan was ‘immense’ and simply needs to play more, believing that he deserves a starting role given Rodri’s disappointing displays this season.

Others feel Gundogan was the only player to deserve praise last night, hailing him for a ‘masterclass’ performance whilst others around him struggled.
