Manchester City got back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon, beating Southampton 1-0 on the South Coast.
After disappointing draws against Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion, Pep Guardiola needed to hit back with a victory – and did just that.
It wasn’t particularly convincing at times, and Southampton certainly put up a great fight, but one first-half goal won it for City.
Kevin De Bruyne found Raheem Sterling for the winner, adding another assist to his total whilst giving City a much-needed three points.
City still haven’t really kicked into gear and don’t look like threatening Liverpool for the title as things stand, but there were some bright spots in the win.
Guardiola handed a start to Bernardo Silva, who is yet another player to have struggled to hit top form for City so far this season.
The Portuguese ace – who cost City £43m – recorded three key passes, three successful dribbles and one shot on target in a promising display, that earned praise on Twitter.
Some suggested that Silva should now be starting every game for City, branding him a ‘class act’ and ‘so so good’.
Others called him ‘awesome’, believing he has ‘so much quality’ and was a welcome addition to a City side seeking fluency going forward.
