The Manchester City defender was handed a surprise start in central midfield against Chelsea on Monday night – and it’s fair to say it didn’t end well for the Argentine.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini was forced into a midfield switch after first-choice man in the middle Fernandinho was left out due to a muscle strain, much to the exasperation of the home fans.
After the game, meanwhile, Pellegrini stated that back-up options Jack Rodwell, Javi Garcia and James Milner weren’t fit enough to start ahead of Demichelis.
Cue a torrid night for the defender, who came in for constant criticism throughout the night, as a first-half Branislav Ivanovic strike ended City’s 100 per cent Premier League record at the Etihad this season.
Some might have argued that the Argentine was simply out of position and made the best of a bad situation. Some, however, have not been so kind, as a search through Manchester City fans’ tweets will attest…
