The 29-year-old scored an outstanding free-kick but City supporters felt he didn’t deserve the award.
Somehow, things look a lot better for Manchester City this weekend.
As results elsewhere favoured Manuel Pellegrini’s men, City’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa takes them into second in the Premier League table – above Arsenal on goal difference (although the Gunners have a game in hand) and above the very Manchester United team that brushed them aside in the derby weeks ago.
That’s all short-term benefits, though, with many Manchester City supporters disappointed with one of their worst performances of the season so far.
Indeed, City were widely acknowledged to have delivered a poor display against Aston Villa – despite clawing back a 3-2 win thanks to a late Fernandinho strike.
Naturally, supporters weren’t too happy – and this is all considering the fact Pellegrini’s side are back up to second. But what irked a lot of Manchester City fans most was the club’s choice for man of the match against Villa.
Winner Aleksandar Kolarov scored a stunning free-kick to help his team earn the three points. Apart from that, however, plenty on social media couldn’t see exactly what the 29-year-old had done to earn the MOTM award…
Here’s a selection of Manchester City fans’ thoughts on Twitter… Who was a better candidate against Aston Villa?
