Manchester City have secured an enormous signing by securing Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, even leaving ex-Manchester United man Danny Higginbotham impressed.

It has been rumoured for many weeks now, possibly even months, but City officially have their man.

City have confirmed the signing of Haaland from July 1st 2022, though the deal is still subject to finalising personal terms.

The Guardian report that City are paying £51.5million for Haaland, activating his release clause at Dortmund.

That report adds that Haaland will be earning around £375,000-a-week at City plus bonuses with Pep Guardiola’s men pushing the boat out.

A number of clubs have been linked with Haaland but he has made his choice, following his dad’s footsteps by joining City.

Erling’s father Alf Inge joined City from Leeds United back in 2000 and played 47 times for the club, scoring three goals.

Erling was born in Leeds but obviously grew up with City being close to his heart.

That may have played a part in Haaland deciding to join City despite links to the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

This is obviously pretty terrifying for the rest of the Premier League.

Haaland has racked up a ridiculous 85 goals in 88 games for Borussia Dortmund since joining from Red Bull Salzburg in 2020.

The Norwegian hitman is only 21 and looks set to score regularly for at least the next 10 years – injuries permitting of course.

Many have suggested that City have been lacking a star striker but they now have one in Haaland, making them even more dangerous in the Premier League and Champions League.

Rivals Manchester United will be cursing this move, but former Red Devils defender Danny Higginbotham has praised the move.

Higginbotham has taken to Twitter to suggest that Haaland will be ‘incredible’ for City and will bring a totally new dimension to their attack.

Few United fans will share the excitement, as they know they’re likely to see Haaland scoring against them next season and beyond.
