Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has given his thoughts on Liverpool to his club’s official website – after the two sides played out an enthralling draw at The Etihad on Sunday afternoon, in a top-of-the-table clash.
Goals from Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane cancelled out City’s lead on two occasions, after Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus had put City in the lead. The draw sees City remain ahead of Liverpool, but only by a point.
Both sides have a tough-ish run-in, but it is Liverpool who face the harder fixtures. Manchester City’s hardest games are probably trips to West Ham and Wolves. Liverpool have to play Tottenham and Manchester United.
But everything is still to play for and City are known to have a little slip up now and then. Walker spoke to Manchester City’s official website on Sunday evening following the full-time whistle, and spoke about Liverpool.
“We couldn’t lose the game and be trailing them because good teams like them don’t drop too many points,” Walker said. “It’s in our hands. We go to sleep tonight top of the Premier League and that’s the important message.”
Walker on Liverpool: Reds unlikely to de-throne Manchester City
Unfortunately from a Liverpool point of view, Manchester City are more than likely to go on and win the Premier League title and that is because their run-in is likely to promise seven wins.
City’s highest-placed opponents in their next seven is West Ham, who themselves were beaten by Brentford 2-0 on Sunday. Wolves away will be a tricky game, but West Ham have given preference to the Europa League.
Liverpool have a tougher run-in, much tougher and even if they win all their remaining seven games, it is unlikely they will catch City. But this is football and a twist is always around the corner.
