West Ham United couldn’t quite hold on, and eventually lost 2-1 to Manchester City in the Premier League today.
Man City ace Fabian Delph spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s gritty 2-1 win over the Hammers today, and blasted the visitors for their defence-minded approach to today’s game, as quoted by the Mirror.
West Ham took a 1-0 lead into the half-time break at the Etihad, but could not withstand City’s barrage of pressure in the second half, eventually losing 2-1.
Pep Guardiola’s side made it 13 consecutive Premier League wins, and they have a chance to break the record held by Chelsea and Arsenal when they travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in next Sunday’s top of the table clash.

City will most certainly face a different challenge against the Red Devils next week to the one that they faced against David Moyes’ side today, and Delph, 28, was highly critical of the Hammers’ setup, as quoted by the Mirror:
“It was difficult, teams seem to come here and get every man behind the ball, not interested in anything but parking the bus. But we have players like David Silva in the team, so we knew if we kept going we’d get our chances. We knew we had to be patient, we came out flying in the second half, we tried to explain to the boys we still had time and then we started to relax a bit more and found those spaces.”
Delph’s words do seem a little harsh. If West Ham had gone to the Etihad and taken City on at their own game, the home side could have hit double figures.
Things don’t get any easier for the Hammers, with a home game against Chelsea next up on the horizon, and Moyes will surely have to set his side up with more attacking intent, with an expectant London Park faithful craving an exciting brand of football.
