Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told Football.London that Eddie Nketiah will not join West Ham United.

According to The London Evening Standard, West Ham are interested in signing the 21-year-old striker from Premier League rivals Arsenal in the January transfer widow.

When asked if Nketiah will leave for West Ham, Arteta said, as quoted in Football.London: “No.”

Moving on

West Ham will now have to move on from Nketiah, as Arteta does not want to send the Arsenal striker away from the club this month.

Manager David Moyes needs to sign a striker this month following the departure of Sebastien Haller to Ajax.

Although Haller struggled to make an impact at the Hammers – he scored just seven Premier League goals last season and found the back of the net three times in the league this campaign, according to WhoScored – he was an option for Moyes upfront.

Michail Antonio is now the only striker in the team, and the former Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest star is actually a winger who has been converted to play upfront.

There is still time for West Ham to sign a new striker this month, but they need to make sure that they bring in someone who has experience and can hit the ground running.
