This Premier League season seems to be the year of the moaning manager and it’s only a few days old, with Manchester United, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace bosses telling it as they see it.
David Moyes started us off last week stating that his side were given a ‘tough’ start to the season because of their status as Champions of England, pointing towards a conspiracy against his side!
Everyone has to play the other teams twice during the season so what’s the issue, come on David stop the moaning and get on with your job, incidentally I didn’t hear him mention this conspiracy after a comfortable 4-1 win against Swansea on Saturday.
The next in line to have a moan was Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway who was angry after his side’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham, he said after the game: ‘It’s going to be a long, hard season for me with these people [referees]. I had this with Blackpool. Certain clubs get fouls and others don’t.’
He was referring to the penalty awarded to Tottenham in the second half when Dean Moxey was judged to have handled the ball while blocking a cross, on replays there really can’t be any complaints. So why all the moaning?
Holloway was maybe trying to deflect from the struggles his side might have this year, although the worked well and made it hard for Spurs they really didn’t threaten the goal until late on, maybe he should focus more on his own team rather than argue clear refereeing decisions.
Finally we come to the best complaints of the week from Newcastle boss Alan Pardew, he seemed to want to lay the blame for his sides heavy defeat to Manchester City at Arsenal, who had the nerve to bid for one of his players the day before a game, while the transfer window is open. I didn’t remember there were guidelines as to when is the appropriate time to submit a bid. Pardew will do well to remember that he acted in a similar fashion back in January when he signed Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa from Montpellier.
It’s an interesting development so far this season, I’m sure we’ll see many more moans and complaints before it’s all said and done. Hopefully not all from Ian Holloway.
