Roberto Martinez has lavished praise on the two players Tottenham Hotspur signed during the January transfer window, describing them as ‘sensational signings’.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte made headlines in midweek for giving a revealing interview to Sky Italia.

In it, the Italian boss admitted that he felt as if Spurs squad had been ‘weakened’ during the winter window after losing Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli.

The Lilywhites only signed two players in January – Dejan Kulusevski who joined on loan from Juventus, and Rodrigo Bentancur who signed permanently from the Serie A outfit.

Kulusevski opened the scoring in Tottenham’s stunning 3-2 victory at Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday, however, and Martinez claims that the duo could be considered ‘sensational signings’ by the North Londoners.

Martinez, who was linked to the Spurs job after Jose Mourinho was sacked last year, told BBC Radio 5 Live on Saturday: “The two signings – Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur – are sensational signings they could bring something special.”

Considering the names Tottenham missed out on – like Luis Diaz – there’s an argument that a lot of supporters felt underwhelmed by Kulusevski and Bentancur.

However, there’s a massive difference between big names and big players, and having scored at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, well Kulusevski is certainly looking like somebody who could belong in the latter bracket.
