Speaking on SportBible Stories, Sean Dyche has actually admitted that he grew up as a Liverpool supporter.
The former Burnley boss has something of an interesting history with the Reds.
Indeed, Dyche grew up as a fan of the Merseyside club, but during his managerial career he’s had a few interesting run-ins and incidents against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Back in January 2021, Dyche and Klopp had some stern words in the Anfield tunnel as Burnley became the first team to win at Liverpool’s home ground in 68 games at that point, and while Dyche may not be the most popular man on Merseyside, he does claim that he grew up as a Liverpool supporter.
What’s been said?
Dyche spoke about which team he supported as a youngster.
“What club did you support growing up?” Dyche was asked.
“I was a 70s kid so Liverpool. My local club Kettering Town we used to go down and watch them, but Liverpool from a distance,” Dyche said.
No love lost
Dyche may have grown up as a Liverpool fan, but we can’t imagine he’s a regular on the Kop these days.
As Dyche progressed as a player and eventually a manager, his football fandom will likely have subsided as he became a part of the professional side of the game, and as his spats with Klopp have shown, there’s no love lost there these days.
We’re sure it won’t be long before Dyche is back managing in the Premier League, and who knows? Perhaps he could even end up managing the Reds’ great rivals, Everton, as the Toffees look likely to, once again, be battling against relegation this season.
We hear often how players and managers grew up supporting another team, but more often than not, they’re only focused on their current employers.
