Ibrox side Rangers are reportedly keen on the veteran defender.
Speaking to The Mail, former QPR boss Neil Warnock has revealed that Joey Barton gets on well with potential Rangers signing Clint Hill, adding that the midfielder most probably recommended life at Ibrox to the veteran defender.
According to The Sun, 37-year-old Hill is set to join Rangers as manager Mark Warburton looks to beefen up the Gers’ rearguard ahead of their big return to the Scottish Premiership next season.
One man who might be happy with the arrival is Barton, who spent four years playing alongside the veteran centre-back at Loftus Road until 2015.
Barton joined Rangers on a Bosman last month from Burnley, signing a two-year deal with the Ibrox outfit, and Warnock, who managed both in West London, says that the duo have a strong relationship with one another.
In fact, the 67-year-old has suggested that the one-time England midfielder recommended a switch to the Glasgow giants.
“I think Clint gets on with Joey Barton and I wouldn’t be surprised if Joey recommended him. Rangers have some good players, some good passers,” he told The Mail.
“But sometimes you need a bit of steel and Clint is like that.”
Rangers are in desperate need of a bit of defensive solidity following their 3-2 Scottish Cup final defeat by Hibernian, in which their frailties were cruelly exposed by the likes of Anthony Stokes and Jason Cummings.
