Chris Sutton couldn’t hide his loyalties to Celtic on Wednesday night after posting a dig at Rangers following their Europa League final loss.

Minutes after Rangers lost the Europa League final to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties, the former Bhoy offered his two cents on Twitter.

Sutton, who spent the best years of his career as a Celtic player, suggested that he fancied the Gers to win the shootout based on how many penalties the Ibrox outfit had been awarded this season in what was an obvious barb toward his former club’s Old Firm rivals.

And Kelty Hearts manager Kevin Thomson – who played for the light Blues during his playing career – has responded negatively to Sutton, accusing him of a ‘lack of class’ on Twitter.

No doubt that virtually every Celtic supporter will have been delighted to see Rangers lose Europa League final last night, but there’s no denying that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s troops offered a stunning account of themselves throughout the competition.

That being said, it’ll take a while for this wound to heal.

Remember, victory would’ve given the Gers a passage into the Champions League next season which, given where the club was a few years ago, would’ve been one hell of an achievement; perhaps moreso than even winning Europe’s secondary competition.

And there’s a good chance that Sutton, if he’s honest with himself, will probably have a lot more respect for Rangers now than before this season’s edition of the tournament began.
