Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has raved about Barry Douglas amid reported interest from Celtic, as quoted in Leeds Live.

According to a report in The Daily Mail last month, Celtic are interested in signing Douglas from Leeds the summer transfer window.

The Glasgow giants have reportedly held talks with the promoted Premier League club over the transfer of the former Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back.

Douglas has yet to make an appearance in the Premier League for Leeds this season, but Bielsa has raved about the 31-year-old and has outlined his importance to the team.

Bielsa told Leeds Live about Douglas: “I give you the same answer as I gave you with Gotts, but added to the fact he has played many times for the first team. If he continues with us he will be a very useful player for our project.

“He’s an impeccable professional. His preparation has been very, very good. He is an integral part of the group here. Just because he hasn’t been part of the 18 in the first two games it doesn’t mean that he won’t be useful across the whole season.”

Leeds United stay or Celtic move?

Leeds are a massive club and are playing in the Premier League this season for the first time since 2004.

Douglas is going to find it tough to play regularly, especially with Stuart Dallas having shown that he can be a success at left-back.

A move to Celtic could see the 31-year-old get more playing time, but he would still have to fight for his place with Greg Taylor.

This is a special season for Leeds, and perhaps it would be best for Douglas if he stays at Elland Road, at least for the first half of the campaign.
