Hull City manager Grant McCann has told BBC Sport that he wants to have Herbie Kane back from Liverpool next season.

Kane joined Championship club Hull on loan from Premier League outfit Liverpool in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old midfielder moved to the Tigers on loan until the end of the season, but he has suffered a hamstring injury and will not play again this campaign.

As reported by BBC Sport, the youngster will now return to Liverpool, with McCann saying that the midfielder will not turn out for his team again this season.

The Hull boss has added that he wants the youngster back on loan for the 2019-20 campaign.

McCann told BBC Sport: “Looking at the scan, it’s not a nice one for him. We’re gutted for Herbie because he’s had no luck since coming here.

“He picked up the injury in training when no-one was near him before lockdown and now he’s pulled a hamstring.”

The Hull boss added about Kane’s future: “We’d love to have him back with us next season. He’s everything that we need and everything that I like in a player – with his energy and bravery.

“He can score goals and he’s calm on the ball as well. We’d love to keep him here next year – and possibly longer if we could.”

Stats

During his loan spell at Hull, Kane made six starts and one substitute appearance in the Championship, scoring two goals in the process, according to WhoScored.

The 21-year-old midfielder also played twice in the FA Cup for the Tigers, according to WhoScored.

Back to Hull City?

With Liverpool having a strong midfield department, it is hard to see Kane establish himself in the first team next season.

A loan move back to Hull would make sense, but only if the Tigers do not get relegated to League One at the end of the season.
