Manager says ‘incredible’ 24-year-old would be a baller for Liverpool

Somebody who knows Timo Werner very well has revealed that he’d be a quality signing for Liverpool.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old Leipzig striker in recent years.

But speculation has intensified in a big way over the past couple of months, with Sky Sports reporting in April that Liverpool were ‘ready’ to push ahead with the move and that Werner himself wanted it.

There’s been a bunch of conflicting information since; some of it positive for Anfield fans who want to see him on Merseyside in the near future, and some of it negative.

But Jesse Marsch, assistant coach at the Bundesliga side last season, has told a Blood Red podcast that he’d be an ‘incredible asset’ for manager Jurgen Klopp.

Marsch, who is now Salzburg boss, said via The Echo: “[Werner would] be an incredible asset for Liverpool. Just from a mentality perspective, he’s one of the most aggressive, cut-throat, attacking players I have ever seen.

“If a defender stops him going one way, that doesn’t faze him at all – he wants the ball again and he’s attacking – again and again and again.

“For Liverpool, he could play in any of the front three positions and he would be fantastic.”

Thing is, Liverpool don’t need anybody in the front three positions, do they?

Klopp has Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in what is arguably the most feared triumvirate in European football, one that saw the Reds win the Champions League for a sixth time 12 months ago.

And it does seem a stretch to sign Werner unless one of those three are leaving which, at the moment, isn’t on the agenda.
