Rennes manager Julien Stephan has suggested that he is interested in signing William Saliba from Arsenal in the summer transfer window, as quoted in Metro.

According to Ouest France, Rennes want to sign the Arsenal central defender on loan before the summer transfer window closes on Monday, as covered by HITC Sport here.

The 19-year-old spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Saint-Etienne after signing for Arsenal.

The defender is now training with the Gunners’ first team, but there are too many centre-backs at the North London club.

Metro quotes Stephan as saying: “William Saliba is an option. He is an interesting player, he is coming out of an appealing season with Saint-Etienne, even if it seems more complicated with Arsenal.”

Leaving Arsenal on loan

Saliba has yet to make a competitive appearance for Arsenal this season, and it would make sense for the teenager to join another club on loan.

The France Under-20 international is only 19 years of age, and if he is not going to play for the Gunners this season, then it would make sense for him to move back to his native country and have another loan spell in Ligue 1.

Meanwhile, according to L’Equipe, Real Madrid are interested in signing Arsenal target Houssem Aouar from Lyon.

Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has held talks with his French compatriot, who is open to moving to Los Blancos, according to the report.
