Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has suggested to The Chronicle that he is still hopeful of signing Danny Rose from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

Rose spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle from Premier League rivals Tottenham.

The 29-year-old left-back did well at St. James’ Park, as the England international made 10 starts and one substitute appearance in the league, according to WhoScored.

Rose is out of contract at Tottenham in the summer of 2021, and Newcastle boss Bruce has said that he is still hopeful of having him in his squad for the 2020-21 campaign despite pre-season training having already started.

When asked if Rose was still on the table from Spurs, Bruce told The Chronicle: “On Danny Rose, we will have a look to see what will happen in the next few weeks. As I said, we’ve got to box clever because of the situation we are all in.”

Back to Newcastle United?

It is hard to see Rose play regularly for the Tottenham first team next season, and a move back to Newcastle does make sense.

The former Leeds United prospect did well during his loan spell, and given that he is 30 years of age, he still has a lot to offer and would make Newcastle a better and more competitive team.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports have reported that Bayer Leverkusen have joined AC Milan in the race for Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier.
