Olympique Marseille manager Igor Tudor has slammed Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares after the left-back received a red card last night in a 2-1 Ligue 1 win against Montpellier.
Speaking to the press via the Daily Mail, the Croatian coach was critical of the Portuguese youth international after Tavares lashed out at a Montpellier defender in the 87th-minute before confronting former Celtic defender Christopher Jullien seconds later.
With Tavares then taunting the Montpellier fans, it is expected that the Arsenal defender will be fined and face a lengthy suspension, with Tudor saying about the entire incident: “He lost his mind and will get a good fine. These are things that happen, of course. He will learn a lesson for the future.”
The red card incident capped a sour note for Tavares’ night as the defender originally opened the scoring for Marseille with a fine finish 47 minutes in. However, the defender is now expected to miss key games for the French giants against the likes of Troyes and Lorient.
Indeed, the fixture captured Tavares’ career perfectly, with a moment of magic being overshadowed by a lapse of lunacy from the former Benfica talent. Though as mentioned by Tudor, this incident should serve as a stern lesson for the young defender.

Tavares has only been at Arsenal for 18 months, yet the defender has already split the fanbase over what his future holds, with the talent clearly there though the mentality is in desperate need of some work for the young Portuguese defender.
The 22-year-old has had bright moments for both Arsenal and Marseille. Though with every stunning finish or incredible dribble comes a foolish red card or a defensive error. And if Tavares is to succeed, the youngster must iron out these problems.
