Daniel Arzani has been told that he was wrong to join Celtic two years ago.
The Australia international joined the Hoops on a two-year loan from Manchester City but it was a nightmare for the young winger.
In total, Arzani managed only 26 minutes of senior football for Celtic.
One reason for this was a season-ending injury suffered in October of 2018 on his debut under Brendan Rodgers but, even after recovering, he wasn’t part of Neil Lennon’s plans.
The player has signed for Utrecht on loan from the Premier League side, and the Greece manager, John van’t Schip, has said that he shouldn’t have signed for the Scottish Premiership champions in the first place.
He said via The Scottish Sun: “I don’t think it was a very good move for him going to Celtic. The reason I say that is because of the standard of football in Scotland.
“He should have come to the Netherlands. I tipped off Ajax about him, but they already had young players in his position. He is potentially a very, very good player, but he barely played at all in Scotland.”
You can’t really criticise Arzani for agreeing to the Celtic move.
After all, Rodgers had a reputation for bringing young players to the next level and although Scottish football isn’t as elite as, say, English football, he still would’ve got a great education.
The truth is that he was desperately unlucky to get injured when he did and Rodgers leaving Glasgow a few months later, while Arzani was injured, might’ve been a coffin nail, in retrospect.
