According to The Mail, Rafa Benitez isn’t quite sold on the idea of becoming Leeds United manager.
Rafa Benitez not being interested in the Leeds job could be a bad sign for the club’s future. The Spaniard is a proven manager with vast experience, and while it’s up for debate whether or not he’d be the right man for Leeds, the fact that he is reportedly not keen on the job is concerning.
His track record in recent years is patchy to say the least, but Benitez has never been the type of manager to back down from a challenge even when it looks impossible.
He’s worked for both Mike Ashley’s Newcastle and Farhad Moshiri’s Everton – two unenviable tasks, but tasks he took on head-on.
Benitez reportedly doesn’t think Leeds is the right project for him, which raises questions about the club’s current state. Leeds have been struggling in the Premier League this season, but that hasn’t stopped Benitez from taking these kinds of jobs before.

However, this stance does indicate that Leeds may be in a worse state in terms of plan and ambition than both Newcastle and Everton were, and that is a scary thought.
Benitez’s apparent lack of interest in the job suggests that he doesn’t see a clear path to success at Elland Road. Given his experience of working at poorly run clubs, his decision not to pursue the Leeds job may indicate underlying problems that he has picked up on.
Of course, it could just be that Benitez wants a more stable job after his stints with Everton and Newcastle.
Regardless, Benitez’s reluctance to take on the Leeds job is a bad sign for the club’s future. As a proven manager, he would have brought a wealth of experience to the club and he knows how to navigate a relegation battle.
The fact that he doesn’t see a clear path to success at Elland Road could indicate underlying problems that the club needs to address and they need to do it quickly if they’re going to attract a top manager.
