UNAM manager Francisco Palencia has been quoted by The Scottish Sun as saying that he thinks Rangers-bound striker Eduardo Herrera is an ‘excellent player’.

Rangers have already snapped up five new signings this summer, as Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack, Dalcio and Daniel Candeias have all arrived at Ibrox.

Mexican international midfielder Carlos Pena is set to arrive from Chivas Guadalajara once he receives a work permit, as is HJK Helsinki’s Colombian goal machine Alfredo Morelos.

Pena will be joined at Ibrox by another Mexican international, with UNAM striker Eduardo Herrera poised to reunite with his former Santos Laguna manager Pedro Caixinha.

As reported by the Daily Record, Herrera will join Rangers in a £1.2million move once his work permit has been rubber-stamped, boosting Caixinha’s options in the final third.

A burly target man who scored four times in 23 games under Caixinha at Santos Laguna, the 28-year-old has spent ten years with UNAM, grabbing 40 goals in 137 games whilst also notching nine caps for Mexico.

Now, UNAM boss Francisco Palencia has been quoted by The Scottish Sun as saying that he thinks Herrera will do ‘very well’ in Scottish football because he is quick, strong and aggressive.

Palencia added that Herrera is an excellent player, wishing him the best of luck at Ibrox – and that should fill Rangers fans with confidence that they are making a good signing in Herrera.

“He’s 28, but I still think of him as a youngster,” said Palencia. “He’s always been a very professional player. He’s quick, strong, aggressive and knows how to score goals. I think he will do very well in Scottish football because of all the qualities he has.”

“He’s an excellent player and I hope he manages to score goals for Rangers. I wish him the best of luck,” he added.
