Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has been quoted by the Record as saying that he believes the lure of Champions League football will convince Cameron Carter-Vickers to join permanently, from Tottenham Hotspur.
Carter-Vickers, 24, has been a revelation on loan at Celtic. It has easily been his best loan spell away from Spurs, having spent time on loan at Swansea, Bournemouth, Stoke, Luton, Sheffield United and Ipswich beforehand.
The Record have previously claimed that Daniel Levy will be holding out for a £10million fee for Carter-Vickers – with a permanent clause included in his loan deal. He has clocked up 35 appearances in all competitions.
In that time, Carter-Vicker has helped Celtic keep 17 clean sheets alongside another ex-Spurs man in Joe Hart. Postecoglou seems confident of keeping Carter-Vickers, with a first-placed finish promising Champions League.
“Champions League football helps us keep them [Jota and Carter-Vickers],” Postecoglou said. “A two-way thing. The player has to want to be here, we have to want them. When you have that, I’m sure we’ll get a deal done.”
Postecoglou on Carter-Vickers: Can Celtic get Tottenham man?
Of course, Carter-Vickers’ form is said to be attracting interest from Premier League clubs. SBI Soccer say Leicester, Wolves and Watford are all keen. Spurs might even use Carter-Vickers as a pawn to land themselves a player.
Indeed, CalcioMercato say Carter-Vickers could be offered to Southampton in a swap for Tino Livramento. But Carter-Vickers will want to stay at Celtic if they win the title and get Champions League football, simple as that.
