Liverpool have set the tone for a stunning January transfer window.

We haven’t even hit January yet and the Reds have already announced one signing, a certain Cody Gakpo.

For £37 million, Liverpool have signed a genuinely brilliant player, one who lit up the World Cup in Qatar at times with the Netherlands.

But let’s not pretend he’s the biggest signing that the Anfield outfit could make, because he isn’t.

And one rival manager may have potentially opened the door for Liverpool to make a bigger addition.

Everyone knows Jude Bellingham is firmly on the Merseysiders’ radar.

But Goal.com reported in midweek that the sought-after England international had decided to join Real Madrid.

Problem is, Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out any signings during the January window and – whisper it – that may provide Jurgen Klopp with the impetus to make a play for Bellingham.

In the same Goal.com report, journalist Neil Jones revealed that Liverpool still felt as if they could convince the Borussia Dortmund midfielder to come to Merseyside.

And now that Ancelotti has stated that no incomings will be arriving in January, well that gives the Reds a big opportunity to steal a march and try convince the player.

If it reaches next summer and Bellingham is still in Germany, well then it might be too late.

Gakpo in January is a cracking piece of business, but Liverpool would blow the 23-year-old out of the water by adding Bellingham, too.
