Andre Villas-Boas has ripped open some old wounds at Tottenham Hotspur – and it involves an Arsenal player.
The Portuguese spent 18 months working as Spurs boss earlier in the decade after replacing Harry Redknapp in North London.
One of the more memorable incidents of that period was when Tottenham thought that they signed Willian, only for Chelsea to hijack the move at the 11th hour.
The Brazilian, who now plays for Arsenal, was even in the offices at Hotspur Way, according to Villas-Boas who claims that Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy won’t ‘appreciate’ his frankness.
He told Copa 90: “Daniel Levy won’t appreciate it too much, but we had Willian in our office at Spurs, watching the Champions League game together, before he left the room and signed for Chelsea that night.”
Villas-Boas wound up being sacked a few months after the Willian debacle and it makes you wonder about his longevity had he successfully signed the Brazilian winger.
Arsenal snapped him up on a Bosman during the summer upon his release from Stamford Bridge, with the 32-year-old setting up two goals on his Premier League debut for the Gunners.
