Norwich City coach David Wagner insists that Kenny McLean ‘will not go’ to Leeds United amid reports that the Championship outfit have had a £4 million bid rejected.
It’s been the story of Leeds United’s summer, really. The odd mood-lifter here and there, but disappointments are never far around the corner. A case in point; a Leeds side with Wilfried Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra back and new striker Joel Piroe leading the line beat top-of-the-table Ipswich Town 4-3 away on Saturday.
Three days later, they were exiting the Carabao Cup at the hands of fourth-tier Salford City, having run aground in their pursuit of a much-needed central midfield addition.
Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Nadiem Amiri, even after being spotted strolling the streets of West Yorkshire, opted against accepting Leeds’ offer. According to Sky Sports, Daniel Farke’s side then saw a £4 million bid for Norwich’s vastly-experienced Kenny McLean rejected, with Wagner then insisting that the Scotland international is not bound for Elland Road in the final week of the window.

“Kenny McLean will not go to Leeds,” Wagner tells the Eastern Daily Press. “100 per cent, no.”
Ethan Ampadu and Archie Grey have been two of Leeds’ brighter performers during a difficult start to the Farke era. But, with a combined age of just 39, more experience and Championship nous may be required in a long and gruelling season who’s unforgiving schedule Leeds fans know only too well.
31-year-old McLean has earned promotion from England’s second tier on two separate occasions during his time at Carrow Road.
Celtic’s Matt O’Riley has also been linked but could be too expensive. What’s more, he has Champions League football to look forward to at Parkhead. The Athletic believe that Leeds have now turned their attention to Werder Bremen’s £4 million-rated talent Ilia Gruev.
Farke is reportedly a big fan of Gruev.
