Oliver Glasner is now facing an uncertain future at Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt as Premier League underachievers Tottenham Hotspur search for a manager to replace Antonio Conte.
As Sport1 point out, the narrative surrounding Glasner – only a couple of weeks ago – focused primarily on the prospect of a new contract at the Commerzbank Arena.
The 48-year-old Austrian is currently tied down until the summer of 2024. And Frankfurt, fully aware of the rising interest from outside of Germany, were reportedly leaving nothing to chance, offering Glasner fresh terms in order to ward off approaches from Chelsea, Real Madrid and Tottenham, amongst others.

Now, if Glasner does indeed depart, it could be in very different circumstances.

According to Sport1, via the Frankfurter Rundschau, doubts surrounding the former Wolfsburg boss are festering behind the scenes. Some of the Frankfurt players seemingly losing faith. Die Adler have won just one game in 12. And Sport1 believe that failure in the DFB Pokal semi-finals against Stuttgart on Wednedsay could be fatal for a coach who guided Frankfurt to Europa League glory less than a year ago.
BILD report that Tottenham opened talks with Glasner in March before putting Antonio Conte out of his misery. Arne Slot and Julian Nagelsmann are alternative options; Daniel Levy casting his net far and wide as he looks to make the right call after a couple of disastrous appointments in the post-Mauricio Pochettino era.
There is, meanwhile, further frustration at Frankfurt surrounding Glasner’s reluctance to commit himself to a new contract.
“If I were really selfish, I would extend the contract immediately,” Glasner told BILD in April. “Collect more money, have an release clause written into it, and get more severance pay if I were then fired.
“But that’s exactly what I won’t do!
“When I commit to an employer and the project, I want to know where the journey is going. And not everything is clear at the moment.
“There are a lot of questions mark in every club right now. Players whose contracts are expiring and do not want to renew, or who the club no longer wants to keep. As well as option the club have to replace them.”
Mike Tullberg, Borussia Dortmund’s U19 coach, is reportedly an option to take Glasner’s job. Tullberg, however, recently committed his future to Die Schwarzgelben.
