PAOK are reportedly closing in on Celtic’s Scottish Premiership winning forward Sead Haksabanovic with the Greek side’s manager confirming that he is planning to bring in another winger before the transfer deadline.

The one-time West Ham United youngster found starts hard to come by under Ange Postecoglou, and things have only got worse for him since Brendan Rodgers returned to Parkhead. So far this season, Sead Haksabanovic has played just 45 minutes of football.

And after seemingly making his feelings clear with a crypic – but not exactly subtle – social media jibe (Celtic legend Chris Sutton labelling him an ‘idiot’ in the aftermath), that ineffective cameo in last week’s 0-0 draw with St Johnstone looks increasingly likely to be his final outing in the iconic green and white shirt.

Sead Haksabanovic could leave Celtic for Greece

Greek reporter Giannis Chorianopoulos wrote on Twitter on Thursday that PAOK had agreed terms with Haksabanovic, talks between Celtic and the Super League outfit ongoing.

PAOK boss Razvan Lucescu was reluctant to give too much away when asked about Haksabanovic directly. But he does admit that a wide forward is high on his wishlist.

“I don’t want to talk about footballers who are not here,” Lucescu tells Hellas Poststen. “We want to bring one or two footballers in the winger position.”

PAOK, what’s more, are not bound by the tighest of deadlines. The Greek window is due to stay open until September 11th. And while Celtic may have reservations about selling Haksabanovic at a time in which they cannot bring in a direct replacement, Brendan Rodgers is hardly short of options out wide.

Chorianopoulos adds that PAOK are offering Celtic £1.7 million. That, coincidently, is the same fee Celtic themselves paid when signing Haksabanovic from Rubin Kazan in the summer of 2022.

Haksabanovic has only five goals and four assists in 42 appearances for Celtic.
