Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has said that he expects to get bids for James Maddison in the January transfer window amid reported interest from Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United, as quoted in The Daily Mail.
However, Rodgers is confident that the England international attacking midfielder will not push for a move away from Leicester in the middle of the season.
Well-known and well-respected journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport last month that Tottenham like the £110,000-a-week (SalarySport) 25-year-old English playmaker and are interested in him.
The Athletic reported last month that Newcastle ‘retain an interest’ in Maddison, described as “extraordinary” by former Tottenham and Leicester striker Gary Lineker on Twitter earlier this month.
Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers on Tottenham target James Maddison
Rodgers said about Maddison: “I would think (there would be). My job is to coach him every day and make him the best he can be. It’s only natural you want your absolute best players to be here, and we keep saying that, but we keep losing them. He’s never a player you would want to lose.
“The beauty of James, and it’s the same with this England scenario, is that it hasn’t affected him. That’s where you see the level of maturity.

“What we’ve seen in the past is, sadly, players are linked with all sorts of clubs because an agent has to create a market, and then when it doesn’t come off, you see the player disappointed.
“It’s never been like that, and James has been linked with loads of clubs. But he’s a realist.
“He also knows he’s in a good place to develop and learn, and he knows he can focus on day-to-day life and improve. What will be in the future will be, but it will only be on the back of playing well.”
Could a transfer happen in January?
In our view, Leicester City are unlikely to sell James Maddison in the January transfer window.
Yes, the Englishman is out of contract at the Foxes at the end of next season, but the former Premier League champions are not going to sell one of their best players in the middle of a season in which they could struggle to stay in the Premier League.
