Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack is reportedly attracting interest from the Scottish Premiership.
Central Coast Mariners manager Mike Mulvey has confirmed that he is ‘waiting to hear’ from Aston Villa regarding striker Ross McCormack.
The 32-year-old, who is on loan at the Austrian A-League side but has returned home to nurse an injury, has been attracting interest from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.
The Daily Record claim that McCormack is keen on a return to Fir Park as Motherwell chiefs are hoping up to wrap up a deal for the Championship stalwart by the weekend.
As a result, Motherwell’s interest has left the door open on McCormack’s future, who has been an outcast at his parent club since January 2017.
Ahead of the Mariners poor start to the season in the Australian A-League, coach Mulvey offered his thoughts on McCormack’s situation and why he left Australian side initially.
“He is an Aston Villa player and we are waiting to hear from them,” said Mulvey, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail. “We let him go back to get his injury further assessed as well as for compassionate reasons as he was missing his two children.
“As soon as we hear from Villa we will let everyone know.”
Former Scotland international McCormack joined Aston Villa during the summer of 2016 following their relegation to the Championship.
The then-in form striker moved from Fulham, but he struggled to cement himself into Villa’s starting XI and was subsequently loaned out to Nottingham Forest following a falling out with then-manager Steve Bruce.
Since then, the Glasgow-born player has been an outcast in the Midlands and played in the A-League as a potential return to the Scottish Premiership is on the cards.
