Rennes boss Julien Stephan spoke to AFP about the future of his teenage sensation Eduardo Camavinga.

The 17-year-old burst on to the scene at the start of the season after a stunning performance against French champions Paris Saint-Germain in the second game of the campaign.

The quality he showed on the ball at his age caught the eye of a number of top clubs across Europe and it is safe to say that he will eventually move away from Rennes.

Sport claimed last month that Barcelona, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Tottenham are all keeping a close eye on the teenager ahead of the summer transfer window.

However, Rennes boss Julien Stephan is hoping that his midfield sensation stays on for another season and feels that continuing in France will help him.

He said: ” It would do him (Camavinga) good to stay at least one more year at Rennes because he needs to back up what he’s done.

“He’s in a place he knows well, he’s at a club that has enormous trust in him and he’s surrounded by people who know him perfectly.

“He has considerable potential but we know the difficulty of having a top-level career in sport at the highest level. He has to be allowed to grow, to flourish, and to above all have fun on the pitch because that’s his driving force.”

Stephan’s words make a lot of sense but clubs of the stature of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool don’t come knocking on a player’s door every day.

Rennes are holding out for £46 million (Sport) for Camavinga which could make a huge difference this summer.

Clubs will be hesitant to make huge investments due to everything that has been going on in the world.

That could see the young Frenchman staying at Rennes for another season, which would be a huge blow for Tottenham and Liverpool.
