Celtic have been encouraged to make a move for Benji Siegrist.

One of the many problems at Parkhead this season has been the goalkeeping situation.

The Hoops spent £5 million on Vasilis Barkas last summer after learning that re-signing Fraser Forster wouldn’t happen, but the Greek – nor Scott Bain – isn’t a patch on the Southampton stopper.

With that in mind, Celtic are said to be in the market for a new number one and Blick reported earlier this month that Dundee United’s Benji Siegrist is on the agenda.

And former United boss Csaba Laszlo, who brought the 28-year-old to Scotland in 2018, is convinced that his old signing is ‘ready’ to make a move to Neil Lennon’s side.

He told The Scottish Sun: “If Celtic need a replacement then who better than someone who knows the league, already on your doorstep? Of course, Benji is the best choice. Think of the age, he’s 28. Normally if you don’t get injured then for four or five years at least you have a very good number one.

“Benji is ready for this. Now I believe he can move to a higher level. To go to a big club like Celtic would be fantastic for him.”

The Bhoys’ season has been a disaster from the very beginning and they need a faultless second half of the campaign if they’re going to catch Rangers to make it 10 Premiership titles in a row.

But to enjoy a faultless second half of the season, they need a brilliant transfer window and time will tell whether Lennon and the suits at Celtic Park believe in Siegrist as much as his old coach does.
