Leeds United are listed among the contenders to sign Barnsley’s Marley Watkins this summer.
Barnsley’s Marley Watkins scores from distance
According to Ladbrokes’ latest odds, Leeds United are one of several clubs in the running to sign Barnsley winger Marley Watkins this summer – although, at 9/1, no one will be getting their knickers in a twist just yet.
Having said that, it would be little surprise if there is some interest from Leeds’ side – and perhaps a little worrying if there isn’t.
Not only is Watkins a free agent this summer, he’s a winger with 10 goals and nine assists in his first season at Championship level.
And with the jury still out on Leeds loanees Modou Barrow, Alfonso Pedraza and Hadi Sacko, Whites boss Garry Monk might well be looking to strengthen in Watkins’ part of the pitch.
Not only that, the 26-year-old and Monk go way back, to when the former was a youth player at Swansea City, where the latter was captain.

And to cap it off, it was during Ben Mansford’s reign as Barnsley chief executive – a role he now occupies at Leeds – that Watkins first arrived at Oakwell, which could ensure the Whites have a head start in any forthcoming pursuit.
As tenuous a link it may seem right now, this one might just have legs.
Would Barnsley’s Watkins be a good signing for Leeds United?
