Manchester United are looking to continue their very good home in the Premier League whilst Southampton are looking to get their own back for the defeat their hosts inflicted on them at St Mary’s last month.

The winner of this game will end up sitting in third in the Premier League after all of the sides in the division have played 21 games this term. Who thought that would happen in August for Southampton? It is testament to the job Ronald Koeman has done in such a short space of time at St Mary’s.

United have not been the best on the road and despite a losing start to the season at Old Trafford, their home form has been near exemplary since as they have put themselves on course to return to the Champions League after only one season out of the competition – despite many injuries troubling the side throughout the campaign.

Having said that, it is expected that Ashley Young is their biggest injury worry ahead of Sunday afternoon’s game.

The Saints however had questions about their credentials last month when they lost four consecutive league games after three consecutive difficult fixtures against Manchester City, Arsenal and this weekend’s opponents. But recently they managed to get a point against an impressive Chelsea and overcame Arsenal to put them in charge of the final Champions League spot, and within striking distance of United.

Whenever Southampton get written off, they seem to come out and prove a point not so long afterwards. They could also be boosted by the return of their right-back Nathaniel Clyne this weekend. Maya Yoshida is unavailable for the visitors because of participation in the Asian Cup.
