Manchester United are reportedly plotting a big offer for FC Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, who is also wanted by Arsenal and Liverpool this summer.

According to Sport, the Red Devils are planning to submit ‘a huge transfer offer’ for the Uruguay international in the transfer window, with the Barcelona centre-back wanted by numerous clubs after an incredible season.

As per the report, Araujo is viewed by many at the Catalan club as their best defender and a player who could be a key part of Barcelona’s project under Xavi Hernandez, who has rejuvenated the La Liga giants in 2022.

Barcelona have climbed up the second in the standings and are currently 13 games unbeaten, and Araujo’s performances have been crucial for Xavi’s blistering start to life as manager of the European titans, yet the defender could leave this summer.

As reported by CBS Sport, Barcelona value the centre-back at $90m (£69m), and as well as United, both Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on Araujo, with ABC reporting that Mikel Arteta’s side have already made a contract offer for the defender.

Indeed, with Araujo’s future up in the air, Premier League clubs are working behind the scenes to sign the Barcelona star before the La Liga side can renew the defender’s contract, and this update from Sport seemingly puts United in the lead for the South American.

Arsenal and Liverpool have built their success this season on the back of their incredible defensive records, and with United struggling to keep goals out despite spending huge amounts on Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane, Araujo should be a priority for the Red Devils.

Indeed, whilst Arsenal and Liverpool would benefit by beating United to a talent as promising as Araujo, there’s no denying that Ralf Rangnick’s side will want to beat their Premier League rivals to sign the Barcelona star, who could change the Manchester side’s backline for good.
