Manchester United could reportedly make a move in January to sign Norwich City defender Max Aarons, with Everton also believed to be interested in the 22-year-old right-back.

According to the Sun, the Red Devils are eager to add to their right-backs options in the winter window, with Aarons emerging as one of the main targets Erik Ten Hag will look to sign for the Manchester giants in January, though United face competition from Everton.

As per the report, the Toffees enquired in the summer to sign the England youth international, and this January could see Aarons, who Norwich now value at just £10m, make a return to the Premier League with Everton or United in a potential bargain deal.

Hailed by United legend Rio Ferdinand as a player with ‘huge potential’, Aarons has been one of Norwich’s best players in recent seasons that has seen the youngster win promotion with the Canaries to the Premier League twice, with links to a bigger side always in the rumour mill.

However, there’s a real sense ahead of the January window that the defender will leave Carrow Road for good, with Norwich not storming the Championship under Dean Smith as the Norfolk side sit in a play-off position after 18 matches this season.

Indeed, Everton might have been confident in landing Aarons in January given Frank Lampard’s impressive work with the Toffees this season. However, United’s interest in the Norwich star could complicate matters given how promising Ten Hag’s project is turning out to be.

Everton’s right-back solution might be in good hands with Nathan Patterson proving to be an ideal understudy for Seamus Coleman, but there’s no denying that Aarons would have been a solid pick-up for the Goodison Park side in January had United not entered the race for the defender.

After all, the Red Devils’ interest could likely see the Manchester giants win the race for the right-back in the new year, and for Everton, they will have to move on to another target should United sign Aarons ahead of their Premier League rivals.
