Manchester United are now looking at a real fight in their bid to land a long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes, with Manchester City and Pep Guardiola now showing an interest in the Barcelona midfielder.
Bruno Fernandes was United’s best player in an otherwise miserable season for the club, as the 30-year-old posted an incredible return of 19 goals and 19 assists in 57 matches across all competitions.

And while the Portugal international remains a crucial figure for Ruben Amorim, his age means United must start planning for life after Fernandes in the near future.

Pep Guardiola’s side have emerged as a potential obstacle after reports in Spain named the midfielder who could follow Phil Foden to City against United’s wishes.
Fernandez was open to his time ahead of Portugal making a shock exit from Euro 2024, revealing he had considered leaving United to join the Saudi Pro League.
But with Ruben Amorim now in charge, and the club showing real intent in the transfer market, the United captain admitted his mind had changed – and that he wanted to be part of the club’s rebuild.

Manchester City’s stance on potential Man Utd successor to Bruno Fernandes, tipped to leave Barcelona
Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez is one player who’s been tipped as a future Fernandes replacement at Old Trafford, known for his ability to operate as an advanced playmaker in the middle of the park.
The Spain international is highly rated by the La Liga side, and is under contract until 2029. He’s believed to have a release clause of €500 million, and is valued by Barcelona at around £43m.

Despite this, new manager Hansi Flick may ultimately have little say in his future, as the club remains mired in financial trouble – and could reportedly be open to a sale this summer just to free up space on the wage bill.
Certain reports have suggested that Guardiola sees Lopez as a blend of “intensity and technique” alongside a “winning mentality.”
