Manchester United target and former Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale couldn’t stop Real Madrid from getting knocked out against Juventus on Wednesday night.
After Real Madrid could only achieve a 1-1 draw at home to Juventus, there was to be no second season European trophy for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
Coupled with the 2-1 loss to the Italian side last week, Los Blancos will not be meeting arch rivals Barcelona in the final in Berlin later this month.
It was of course not solely Bale’s fault that Real couldn’t score the second goal on the night that would take the game into extra time, nor was it his fault that Juventus scored their away goal.
But Bale, so often the victim of criticism for Real’s temperamental performances in recent weeks, was again a target as fans debated his display on Twitter.
United fans perceived the result and the 25-year-old’s performance as encouragement that the winger will be interested in moving back to the Premier League this summer, a move sources such as the Mirror have touted, while Spurs fans questioned what had happened to their former favourite, with some imploring Daniel Levy to consider any means possible of getting Bale back to White Hart Lane.
