Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Arsenal and Liverpool transfer target, Cody Gakpo, is going to be ‘Manchester United’s next signing’, as he told Vibe with Five.
Before the Qatar World Cup started, there was a lot of hype and noise around the PSV Eindhoven player, and now that he already has three goals in the tournament as the Netherlands prepare for a last-16 showdown against the USA, then his transfer fee would have only doubled.
That’s what former England defender Rio Ferdinand thinks anyway, as he feels Gakpo’s transfer value will now be sitting at £60 million after interest from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

It could have been very different for Gakpo during the summer because the 23-year-old was pretty close to swapping the Eredivisie and moving to the Premier League to join Leeds United.
But now teams in the Champions League are gunning for his signature and after Ferdinand was told that the versatile forward’s three goals at the World Cup have come from ‘0.26xg’, he was left shocked.
“Manchester United’s next signing,” said Ferdinand. “Who we probably could have had for £25-30 million before the tournament, who has probably doubled to £60 million, with add-ons maybe £70 or 80 million.
On Gakpo scoring his three goals from 0.26xg: “WOW. Man United are just going to get bent over again, to put it bluntly. The numbers that are going to be spoken about after this tournament.
“If he does nothing from this point on, then he has doubled, minimum, in value in wages and in the transfer fee, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo leaving. Man United need new owners now.”

WHO WILL SIGN GAKPO?
The World Cup always throws about a few players that are shunned straight into the transfer spotlight after they produce impressive performances on football’s biggest stage.
For Gakpo, he has already made a dent and the elite teams would have already sat up and taken notice.
Now it’s a case of how far he can push Louis van Gaal’s side in the Middle East because they will be the favourites to beat the US ahead of their last-16 meeting.
