Manchester United are set to be in for an important few weeks following Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City.
The future of key players as well as manager Erik ten Hag is uncertain with the Dutchman guiding Manchester United to their lowest league finish of eighth in the Premier League.
Ten Hag built up so much credit with fans of the Red Devils after finishing third in the division and winning the Carabao Cup during his debut season at Old Trafford.
However, patience is wearing thin at Old Trafford following a disastrous campaign and there have been tentative links with former Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, who departed Bavaria last week.
Cundy warns United away from Tuchel
A decision on the future of Ten Hag will need to be made sooner rather than later with the Dutch manager having just 12 months remaining on his contract at Old Trafford. Tuchel seems like the perfect replacement for the Red Devils.
The German won the Champions League trophy at Chelsea and multiple league titles throughout his career at PSG and Bayern Munich, he would certainly be an elite name for the Red Devils.
However, former Chelsea player Jason Cundy has warned the Red Devils away from appointing the German this summer as he claims the manager will ‘fall out with everyone’.
“He will fall out with someone. He falls out with everyone,” Cundy said on talkSPORT. “Eventually, he’ll move on because he’s not easy, a bit like [Antonio] Conte, he’s not easy to get on with.
“When trophies are coming in, perfect, as soon as those little performances start to dip, one or two things don’t go right, and then all of a sudden he starts having a pop at people, there’s a pattern there.”
United’s big decision
This summer, Ineos will have their first key decision to make at Old Trafford. Sticking with Ten Hag or moving him on will be a tough call to make but they have to be certain and confident that their decision will bear fruit.
If they get it wrong, fans will lose faith in the current regime. There are brilliant managers waiting in the wings to take over, if that is the direction they choose to go in.
One thing that Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe cannot do is allow the uncertainty to fester. HITC Football reported last week that United were keen on Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo but because of the uncertainty surrounding the manager’s future, the Englishman couldn’t commit to the club, which has led to Newcastle stealing a march on the Red Devils.
The uncertainty will affect the plans that the club may have this summer. A decision has to be made sooner rather than later.
