Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck has been linked with move away from Old Trafford this summer.
Amid the constant speculation that Robin van Persie could leave United at the end of the season, along with the occasional hints that Javier Hernandez could also be on his way, the England striker has become the latest name to be tipped for a Man United exit.
According to the Daily Mail, David Moyes will look to offload the 23-year-old, with Everton and Newcastle said to be leading the chase for the front man.
Would Welbeck, though, be the right man for Moyes to sell?
| Striker | Goals | Assists | Won Contests | Total Flick Ons | Apps | Mins |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wayne Rooney | 11 | 10 | 33 | 17 | 23 | 1,936 |
| Robin van Persie | 11 | 3 | 15 | 24 | 17 | 1,376 |
| Danny Welbeck | 9 | 1 | 15 | 16 | 18 | 1,168 |
| Javier Hernández | 2 | 2 | 1 | 6 | 16 | 548 |
The Manchester United striker scored his ninth Premier League goal of the season against West Brom yesterday and, as Opta data shows, his statistics for the current campaign are not too far behind that of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
Indeed, the 23-year-old has only scored two less than United’s main front men, despite playing considerably less minutes, while his dribbling statistics are equal to RVP, with Welbeck only completing one less flick on than Rooney.
With Moyes and Man United consistently linked with a squad overhaul this summer, however, Welbeck could be sacrificed to make way for new signings. Especially with Edinson Cavani’s name continually popping up in reports across the board.
According to the Mail’s report, meanwhile, 23-year-old Welbeck is also set to miss out on England’s World Cup squad this summer. He just can’t catch a break.
