Manchester United are churning up a lot of headlines now that the transfer window is open.

The club began pre-season training at Carrington this week, and a few new faces will be joining in shortly.

Matheus Cunha arrived as the first signing of the summer, costing £62.5 million spread over three years.

United were then linked with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and are reportedly in talks to get a deal done soon.

Boca Juniors’ Milton Delgado is another name in the mix, and there are reports that United are about to test the waters with a bid.

Meanwhile, Diego Leon of Cerro Porteno is said to have already arrived at the club.

Delgado was promoted to Boca Juniors’ first team last year but earned most of his playing time under Fernando Gago’s management in 2025.

He currently has 30 senior appearances for the Xeneizes. However, the 20-year-old midfielder doesn’t appear to be among Miguel Ángel Russo’s preferred options, having lost his place in the starting XI.

That doesn’t seem to have deterred Manchester United’s interest, with Canal 26 reporting the club are still keen despite Delgado’s lack of involvement under the new boss. Another Argentine outlet, La Capital Mar del Plata, has gone a step further, claiming United are preparing to make a formal bid for the midfielder in the ‘coming days.’

Boca are reportedly thought to be holding out for a fee of around €11m (£9m) for the defensive midfielder.

Bringing through a player who isn’t even starting for his club right now would be a definite surprise. Manchester United’s academy already has strong links to South American football, and Delgado could fit into the long-term vision, even if he’s not an immediate solution for the first team.

The club currently have two Argentine players in the first team: Alejandro Garnacho and Lisandro Martinez. They follow a line of six other Argentina internationals who’ve pulled on the United shirt over the years, starting with Juan Sebastian Veron in the early 2000s.

Garnacho has made more appearances for the club than any other Argentine, while only Carlos Tevez and Angel Di Maria managed to score over 10 goals in the shirt.

Garnacho also became the youngest Argentine to play in the Champions League, appearing in the competition at just 18 years and 142 days old. He’s already scored in the tournament six times in his career.

And with names like Franco Mastantuono and Ian Subiabre also linked recently, it’s clear that United are watching the talent pipeline in Argentina closely.
