If Eric Dier were to leave Tottenham for Manchester United it could present a great opportunity for Newcastle.
Tottenham’s Eric Dier warms up before the match
According to the Sun, some of Tottenham Hotspur’s English talent are becoming tempted by larger pay packets in the North.
Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker all earn around £65,000-a-week at White Hart Lane, but could double their wages were they to move to one of the Manchester clubs.
Dier, in particular, is interesting Manchester United as they look to strengthen their squad after what has been another disappointing showing in the Premier League in 2016/17.
It is a potential transfer that Newcastle United should be keeping a close eye on, because the 23-year-old would effectively be a long-term successor to Michael Carrick at Old Trafford, operating in a similar style to the veteran midfielder.
Carrick is out of contract this summer and despite rumours that Jose Mourinho is considering offering the 35-year-old a one-year extension, the arrival of Dier would make that less of a priority.
Manchester United’s Michael Carrick
Born in Newcastle and a boyhood Magpies fan, Carrick revealed earlier this year that he dreamed of playing for the club but that the opportunity has now probably passed.
Yet if Dier takes his place in the Red Devils squad could the Geordie be tempted by a farewell season with the Toon as they look to establish themselves as a Premier League club again? He’s certainly still good enough.
