Leeds United have a women’s team affiliated with the club again.
Elland Road
It has been a busy few weeks for Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani, despite the setback of Garry Monk’s resignation.
The Italian brought in highly rated former APOEL boss Thomas Christiansen as manager, and signed Mateusz Klich a week later.
A deal for Hadi Sacko has also been tied up, along with a four-year contract extension for Ronaldo Vieira, a key piece of business.
Now he has delivered another promise, to bring a Leeds United ladies team back into the fold.
This is significant because Radrizzani had pledged to investigate the possibility of doing so just weeks earlier.
Leeds United had a women’s team until former chairman Ken Bates cut funding in 2005, although the team has remained in existence.
Sponsorship was arranged and after years of back and forth, Leeds Ladies FC were independent from the club, severing all ties in 2014 having renamed for the third time in a decade.
Now they are back under the Leeds United umbrella, an important step for Radrizzani in re-establishing the Whites as a community club.
He is proving himself to be a man of action who can deliver on his promises, which bodes well for the future.
