Jamie Redknapp has lauded reported Tottenham target Danny Ings on Sky Sports PL (26/09/20) as a ‘man in form’ after he helped Southampton to a much-needed 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday evening.
Last week, Ings netted a brace against Spurs only for his own team to ship five at the other end, largely thanks to the underrated energy battery Heung-Min Son.
Despite suffering such a defeat, Ings carried the Saints at Turf Moor over the weekend and proved why he is a player seemingly in-demand and so highly-valued.
During his days at Liverpool, Ings suffered a number of serious injuries, which stopped his progression, but he has been proving for some while now that he is a different animal.
“His form right now it’s sensational,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “He plays in a team that doesn’t create that much – he’s had a hot year as well all know.
“But just right now, he’s a man in form. He’s scoring all types of goals – he’s just in incredible form. 46% of [Southampton’s goals he has scored] since the start of last season. That’s amazing stats.
“They are so reliant on him. I think it works out on about £20 million from Liverpool. He has had injuries as well, some injuries to a certain extent that might have finished other players careers. But he has bounced back. He’s shown tremendous resilience and real quality.”

The Telegraph did previously report that Southampton rejected an approach from Spurs for Ings’ services.
After an opening day defeat to Everton, Spurs have put their foot down on the transfer pedal with the standout purchase being the return of Gareth Bale.
But with so much reliance on Harry Kane, it seems the North London club are still chasing more depth in the attacking third.
A player like Ings would do wonders under Jose Mourinho because of his ability to be clinical and efficient, but given that he’s now an England international, he wouldn’t want to disrupt his game time by moving elsewhere.
