Man City youngster Lewis Fiorini wants to emulate Rangers Academy graduates Billy Gilmour and Nathan Patterson into the Scotland set up after seeing the talented duo force their way into Steve Clarke’s squad for Euro 2020.
The Scotland under-21 international has worked with Rangers defender Patterson and Chelsea wonderkid Gilmour in the under-21s side over the last 12 months and hopes he can impress enough over the coming campaign to win a senior call up.
While Patterson and Gilmour look to have secured their place in the senior squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, Fiorini is heading on loan to Lincoln City after a successful loan spell in the Netherlands and looking to continue progressing for club and country.
“I am looking forward to the new U21s campaign,” he said.
“I was in and around the group last year which was another good point from last season. There were a lot of guys with experience in that group, like Lewis Ferguson and Ross McCrorie.
“You had three lads from the group at Euro 2020 (Nathan Patterson, Billy Gilmour, David Turnbull) with the senior Scotland squad which was good to see. There aren’t many in the new group involved in senior football. Hopefully Steve Clarke gives me a call! That’s the next step for me, breaking into the senior squad.
“Who knows when that will be, however. One week I was speaking about playing for the Scotland U21s and the next week I was in it. So who knows what can happen. I want to be a star.”

Patterson and Gilmour are arguably the two poster boys for young Scottish players after their Euro 2020 breakthroughs.
The talented duo are certain to make up an important part of Clarke’s side for years to come and Fiorini will be hoping he can join them sooner rather than later.
The Man City youngster is a really interesting prospect for Scotland and seems to go under the radar a little despite his impressive form over the last 12 months.
