The Athletic journalist, Sam Lee said on the ‘Why Always Us’ podcast on deadline day that Man City right-back Kyle Walker could be set for a summer exit.

Recently, Joao Cancelo stole the headlines after being shipped out to Bayern Munich on loan, after a reported training ground bust-up with Pep Guardiola.

While that is not the case with Kyle Walker, he could very well depart Man City after 6 years in the upcoming summer, due to a lack of game time in recent weeks.

Kyle Walker could exit Man City in the summer of 2023

Since the end of the World Cup and the return of club football, the £53 million (talkSPORT) man has started just 2 games out of 6, with Rico Lewis preferred at right-back. And in one of the games where the England international started, he was hooked off at half-time against Chelsea.

Now, it seems Kyle Walker, described as ‘amazing’ by Pep Guardiola earlier this season (via MEN) could follow Joao Cancelo, but potentially on permanent basis with a reported Man City exit touted in the summer.

“I don’t think he’s [Kyle Walker] far off [as being as annoyed as Joao Cancelo about not getting playing time recently]”, The Athletic’s Man City correspondent Sam Lee said on the Why Always Us podcast.

“Walker may be a candidate to move on in the summer. Maybe now I’m shedding this conservatism [about not fully revealing what he’s told] and coming out a bit more with stuff I’ve heard in the last couple of days and the last couple of weeks

“Walker’s situation is not ideal either.”

Summer overhaul at Man City seems inevitable

Considering Pep Guardiola has already voiced the drop-off in mentality in the side after winning 4 out of 5 Premier League titles, and is an advocate of freshening up his teams to ensure the hunger stays alive, a squad overhaul could be on the way.

With a recent report also suggesting that not just Kyle Walker but the likes of Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Aymeric Laporte are unhappy with the Man City boss, and could be exit-bound.

Keeping that in mind as well, it would be no surprise to see Walker, alongside a number of established winners leave the Etihad Stadium.
