Former Manchester City wonderkid Rony Lopes has tipped Joao Cancelo to join Real Madrid having just signed for Bayern Munich on loan in the January transfer window.
Speaking to Eleven Sports, the now-27-year-old-winger has questioned why his Portuguese counterpart has not been playing since the 2022 FIFA World Cup break, with Cancelo being dropped by Pep Guardiola and eventually signing for Bayern until the end of the season.

With Cancelo impressing already at Bayern, a summer move could be on the cards for the 28-year-old if a club is willing to match City’s reported €70m (£62m) asking price for the defender. And for Lopes, Madrid could be an ideal suitor for the former Juventus superstar.
Lopes said on Cancelo: “At City, he wasn’t playing, I don’t know why, and a player with his quality has to play. I think he made a good decision [to join Bayern Munich] I think Real Madrid would also be a good move for Joao, but I think Cancelo’s already at a great team.”
With a departure from City firmly on the cards, a move back to Spain in the form of Madrid could be a realistic move for the defender, especially with Los Blancos likely to spend big in the upcoming summer window on a versatile fullback, such as the Portuguese international.
Joao Cancelo to Real Madrid makes a lot of sense on paper

Bayern might have first refusal to sign Cancelo in the summer, but with rumours circulating already that the Bundesliga giants can’t afford the £62m option to buy, Madrid could swoop in at the end of the season to bring the City outcast to the Spanish capital.
With Madrid in need of some defensive reinforcements in the window, Cancelo could be a perfect signing given the fullback’s ability to play both left-back and right-back, and with experience already in La Liga, the 28-year-old could be one of Carlo Ancelotti’s best signings in recent memory.
