Man City transfer news: Cancelo loan spell hinging on PSG result tonight

Joao Cancelo’s Bayern Munich career could reportedly be over if the Bundesliga giants are eliminated by PSG tonight in the UEFA Champions League.

According to Kicker, the on-loan Manchester City star’s time in Bavaria could become a ‘big problem’ if Julian Nagelsmann’s side are knocked out of Europe by the Parisian giants, with Cancelo expected to play some sort of role for Bayern in their quest for Champions League glory.

The news comes shortly after Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that the Portuguese international is already frustrated with his time at Bayern and his role with the club, with the defender not starting the last four games for the German side and not playing at all on the weekend against VfB Stuttgart.

As a result, Cancelo’s time at Bayern is already on the ropes, and elimination from Europe from the hands of PSG could see the 28-year-old defender indefinitely left out in the cold at Bayern, something very few City supporters would have predicted when the transfer was made in January.

Arguably the most complete fullback currently playing in Europe, Cancelo was expected to light up Germany after a surprise loan move to Bayern was announced in the winter window. However, the defender is seemingly struggling to return to his level of form before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Indeed, Cancelo left City over similar issues, and with the defender once again struggling at a major European club, the right-back’s time in Germany with Bayern could be over before it has even started if the Munich-based side fall to PSG in the Champions League tonight.

Cancelo’s loan spell with Bayern has gone in a direction very few would have predicted, with the former Juventus star already a benchwarmer despite such an impressive start having joined from City. And the defender will be hopeful of a comfortable win against PSG.

Bayern already have a 1-0 lead against the French giants heading into tonight’s fixture, and with Cancelo expected to start on the bench, the on-loan City star will be hopeful that his new teammates can get the job done against Kylian Mbappe and company in Bavaria.
