Riyad Mahrez is reportedly set to sign a contract extension with Manchester City that will keep the Algerian international at the club until 2025.
According to L’Equipe, the 31-year-old winger is now ‘on the verge’ of penning a new deal with the Premier League giants that will add two years to Mahrez’s contract, with the winger one of City’s most important attackers and recently coming off his best season ever for Pep Guardiola’s side.
With the departures of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling, it appears that City are willing to entrust Mahrez with the role as their starting right-winger for next season, with new signing Julian Alvarez likely to take some time to become used to Premier League football following his move to Manchester.
Indeed, Mahrez signing a new contract guarantees that City have a world-class winger on their books for the next three years, with the career-defining moment a huge one for the former Leicester City attacker, who has grown more and more as a player ever since his £60m move to the Etihad Stadium.
The attacker bagged an incredible 24 goals in all competitions last season as City reclaimed the Premier League title and made it to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, with Mahrez and company next season aiming to end their European curse.
And signing a new contract extension with City will likely motivate Mahrez to hit even more new heights next season, especially with Erling Haaland now on the receiving end of the Algerian’s crosses and set-pieces that were so deadly in the last campaign.
New Mahrez contract extension is a huge boost for City

Despite being linked with an exit this summer according to reports, Mahrez and City have made a great decision in extending the winger’s contract until 2025, with the attacker in the prime of his career and potentially only going to get better in this new-look attacking three.
After all, Mahrez was arguably City’s best forward last season, and playing alongside Haaland with Phil Foden or Jack Grealish out on the left is a dangerous prospect for any Premier League side, and signing a new contract extension will only motivate the winger to perform even better under Guardiola.
